International role of the euro and digitalisation

Following the European Central Bank´s annual review of the international role of the euro, Hans-Joachim Klöckers, director general for international and European relations, ECB, and Arnaud Mehl, adviser in the division for international policy analysis, ECB, outline key trends impacting the single currency´s role around the world. They focus on the challenges and opportunities in growing the euro’s role as an international currency, especially with regard to deepening economic and monetary union and establishing a capital markets union. Other topics include monetary policy, such as swap and repo lines, and the role of the digital euro.
