A panel discussion with senior African policy-makers, launching the third annual Absa Africa Financial Markets Index that records the openness to foreign investment of countries across the continent.

The index is a premier indicator of the attractiveness of Africa’s capital markets, for use by policy-makers, investors and asset managers around the world. Since its inception in 2017, the index has been a benchmark to reflect on the state of African financial markets and what actions need to be taken. This has involved the enhancement of key financial frameworks to ensure markets develop to attract foreign direct investment.

The launch will take place at the Ritz-Carlton Washington Hotel from 07:00-08:45, alongside the International Monetary Fund-World Bank Group annual meetings. It will feature a presentation of the report and key findings, followed by a panel discussion and moderated Q&A session. All attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the report.

Topics for discussion will include:

  • Enhancing structural reforms and regulatory frameworks to deepen capital market development
  • Benchmarking regulation against global standards and lessons learned from European jurisdictions
  • Overcoming regional integration challenges to boost liquidity trading and foreign exchange markets
