Understanding a new generation of AI-related risks and regulation

The emergent capabilities of more powerful frontier artificial intelligence systems are expected to bring huge benefits, but the very same opportunities also bring significant risks. Policy-makers face the challenge of balancing innovation with safety while building consensus among key stakeholders.
David Harris, chancellor’s public scholar and continuing lecturer at the University of California and Lucia Velasco, Lead of AI Policy and Governance at the United Nations, join OMFIF to discuss the trajectory of AI development and the new types of risks that current and future AI models may pose. We will address why anticipating risks is important for policy formulation and what strategies will most effectively mitigate potential harm and ensure that AI has a beneficial impact.
