Paul Tucker on 'Global Discord: Values and Power in a Fractured World Order'

OMFIF Live Broadcast
  Thu 17 Nov 2022 15:00 - 16:00

Paul Tucker, former deputy governor of the Bank of England, sits down with a panel led by OMFIF’s Mark Sobel, US chair, to discuss his forthcoming book, ‘Global Discord: Values and Power in a Fractured World Order’. Drawing upon his three decades as a central banker and regulator, Tucker discusses principles for a new sustainable system of international co-operation.

How do democracies work with China and authoritarian states without sacrificing their values? What must be done to ensure that democratic institutions endure? Can the international monetary and legal order maintain their legitimacy amid heightened geopolitical tension and conflict?

As the line between the economic and political arenas blurs and the global political landscape changes, Tucker aims to answer these questions, and present a new kind of political realism that emphasises power and interests without sidelining morality.
