SSA 2024 (1)

OMFIF’s flagship annual event from the Sovereign Debt Institute returns to Luxembourg on 19 September, bringing together leading issuers from the European sovereign, supranational and agency sector with many of the most influential investors in European fixed income.

SDI meetings have become a key staple in the SSA calendar for both issuers and investors. The SDI’s Global Public Sector Debt Summit in March 2024 was attended by almost 70 players in the broader SSA community, with almost 60% representing issuers and investors, with the rest of the attendees representing key intermediaries in these markets.

The unique format of SDI’s events has made it popular with market participants, with an intimate feel and with attendance by invitation only. They are also interactive, with all delegates able to contribute to the discussions and off-the-record, encouraging deeper discussions and allowing a frank exchange of views. We also ensure there is plenty of opportunity for networking alongside the discussion groups, enabling all participants to establish and build closer relationships with their clients and other stakeholders.

Our carefully crafted agenda, informed by our constant contact with the market, covers areas that are front of mind for market participants, with the added value of giving a platform for all stakeholders – issuers, investors and intermediaries – to debate these key issues.

Among the topics to be discussed this year:

  • Key themes and lessons learned during the course of 2024 from both issuers and investors, and look ahead to issuance plans in 2025;
  • Understanding the macro environment – how are geopolitical factors affecting the European bond market;
  • Sharing best practice on allocations in primary markets and optimising your investor base;
  • Initiatives in promoting consistent liquidity in European SSA bonds;
  • The role of primary dealers: making the model work for issuers, investors and the banks;
  • Latest developments in sustainable bonds: products, standards and reporting
  • The currency question: are euro-denominated bonds growing in popularity with global investors, and what other currencies offer value to buyers and sellers?

About the Sovereign Debt Institute

OMFIF’s Sovereign Debt Institute is an important forum for issuers and investors in the public sector debt markets to discuss their priorities and concerns. The intimate format of our events has generated positive feedback from both borrowers and the buyside.

Events hosted by the SDI during 2023 generated deep discussions about core issues affecting the public sector debt markets. These included concerns about liquidity, incentives for primary dealers, the disappearance of the ‘greenium’, the impact of private placements, the role of hedge funds and the development of market infrastructure.

Throughout 2024, we will build on the success of our 2023 calendar. This will include a mixture of flagship forums with larger numbers of issuers and investors, as well as more focused groups for discussions on specific issues.
