The geopolitics of payment systems and digital assets

SeminarThe geoeconomic landscapeLondonDigital Monetary Institute
Tue 30 Sep 202510:15 - 11:45

Technological progress is leading to the rapid digitalisation of payments systems – a critical pillar of the global economy. At the same time, the emergence of digital assets is unfolding in an era of greater geopolitical instability for financial systems.

This seminar examines the risks and opportunities shaping the future of digital payments and the long-term benefits that innovation can deliver. The discussion also considers the role of stablecoins and assesses European Union and UK responses to the US Genius Act.

Proceedings are off the record to encourage open dialogue. The seminar is in person in London, with a limited number of places available. Priority will be given to members of OMFIF’s Digital Money Institute.

This session is part of a programme featuring speakers from across the public and private sectors, focusing on the geoeconomic landscape and the rapprochement between the UK, Germany and the EU. It culminates in a reception at the German Embassy to mark the publication of Can Europe Survive? The Story of a Continent in a Fractured World by David Marsh, chairman of OMFIF. Marsh will be joined by Joachim Nagel, president of Deutsche Bundesbank, to discuss the findings of his book.
