The Bank of England’s vision for payments

Ali Moussavi, head of payments strategy at the Bank of England, joined OMFIF to explore the Bank’s discussion paper on its approach to innovation in money and payments, and how it supports the Bank’s monetary and financial stability objectives.
The roundtable examined advancements in UK retail and wholesale payments and what these developments mean for the role of central bank money. We also discussed the importance of preserving singleness across publicly and privately issued money, the use of programmable platforms and the Bank’s strategy to ensure it remains agile in response to a rapidly evolving digital payments landscape.
