ESG bond growth: investor demand in emerging markets
The political landscape is one of declining climate policies in North America and Western Europe. As a result, emerging markets have seen renewed investor interest in and appetite for their climate policies and initiatives. According to the World Bank, the share of emerging market issuers in the labelled debt market has more than doubled between 2020 and 2024.
While advanced markets still make up the largest share of green and sustainable bond issuance, in the past few years emerging markets sovereigns have entered the market. This roundtable brings together private financial institutions, sovereign funds and policy-makers to analyse the rapidly evolving role of emerging economies in the green bond market.
