Project Genesis 2.0: leveraging blockchain technology with green finance

The public and private sector are using new technologies to improve the impact and extend the reach of green finance. Project Genesis 2.0 is a collaboration between the Bank for International Settlements Innovation Hub’s Hong Kong Centre, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the United Nations Climate Change Innovation Hub and others from both the public and private sectors. The project showcases how blockchain, smart contracts and distributed ledger technology can be leveraged in the climate finance and carbon markets.
The objectives of this initiative are to contribute to global climate goals by shifting mainstream finance towards effective climate solutions, while also enhancing the transparency and the environmental integrity of the green bond market.
Bénédicte Nolens, head, BIS Innovation Hub Hong Kong, joins OMFIF to discuss key findings and the technical feasibility for effectively tracking, measuring and verifying mitigation outcome data in real time. We will also explore how blockchain technology has the potential to catalyse innovations in the green finance market.
