North Africa’s economic outlook: Tunisia’s economy, regional integration and financial innovation

As the permanent seat of the Council of Governors for the Central Bank of the Arab Maghreb Union, Tunisia is leading regional efforts in bolstering financial innovation and specific sector developments in financial technology. This forms part of a wider economic growth strategy. Marouane El Abassi, governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, discusses these efforts, as well as the impact of Covid-19 and the policy response. Nabil Ben Khedher, ambassador of Tunisia to the UK, comments on UK-Tunisia relations and what the UK’s departure from the European Union means for the region.
