Investing in green infrastructure: policy, frameworks and tools

With the Labour Party’s ‘green prosperity plan’, and the UK government’s National Wealth Fund, there is an increased push for green capital markets, sustainable infrastructure development and clean energy. This roundtable considers how the UK will scale up the capital needed for green infrastructure, the policies and tools required and why green investment is crucial for the UK.

Nick MacInnes is circular economy lead at the Office of the Chief Scientific Adviser at the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs. He also leads the International Centre of Excellence in sustainable resource management in the circular economy. His expertise ranges from advising the UN Economic Commission for Europe on environmental, social and corporate governance, relevant environmental legislation as well as environmental and public health risks associated with policy and strategy.

Helen Williams is chief strategy and policy officer at the National Wealth Fund, job-sharing with Kate McGavin. They are responsible for the policy, communications and local authority functions of the UK Infrastructure Bank. Before joining the bank, they spent two years as directors in Cabinet Office with responsibility for devolution policy and legislation and inter-governmental relations. Williams has also held senior Civil Service roles in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Department for Business and UK Treasury.
