In focus: Hong Kong’s landmark digital green bond

Extending its pioneering work in both the digital and green bonds space, the Hong Kong government has reached another milestone, performing a multi-currency green bond issuance via HSBC’s digital assets platform, Orion. The trade is a landmark issuance due to its digitally native format and broadened investor participation via the Central Moneymarkets Unit (Hong Kong’s central securities depository).
Georgina Lok, head of market development, and Oscar Pang, senior manager, market development at HKMA, join OMFIF to discuss how the digital nature of the bond can streamline the issuance process and broaden investor participation. They examine how investors might benefit from the integration of green bond disclosures with the digital assets platform and discuss strategies to consolidate Hong Kong’s status as a leading green and sustainable finance hub.
