China’s economy in the face of a trade war

In the light of the US-China trade war, Kai Guo, executive president and senior fellow at the CF40 Institute, and Qiyuan Xu, senior fellow and deputy director of the Institute of World Economics and Politics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, join Mark Sobel, OMFIF’s US chair. They discuss the outlook for China’s economy, including the likely policy response by President Xi Jinping and the People’s Bank of China. The discussion also covers growth prospects, expectations for the renminbi and China’s role in the global economy.

Kai Guo is executive president and senior fellow of CF40 Institute. Before joining CF40 Institute, he was an economist at the International Monetary Fund and then worked at the People’s Bank of China in various capacities, including in the monetary policy and international departments. His main research areas include the Chinese economy and its macroeconomic policies as well as international finance.
