What markets won’t fix: do payments need public intervention?
Payments systems worldwide are evolving, with central banks seeking to improve efficiency, strengthen resilience and ensure that payments systems continue to meet the needs of users across all segments of society. As stablecoins gain traction and cross-border payments continue to face challenges around cost, speed and reliability, central banks are considering where public intervention may be needed to support competition, inclusion and monetary sovereignty.
To explore how central banks are responding, OMFIF’s Digital Monetary Institute, in partnership with Giesecke+Devrient, has conducted a survey with central banks, examining their views on the challenges affecting their payments markets and their attitudes towards central bank digital currencies as a potential solution. The results of this survey will be featured in a forthcoming report, produced in partnership with G+D.
Join us to learn which payments issues central banks see as most urgent and discuss what it will take to build a more resilient and inclusive payments system.
