As geopolitical fragmentation, persistent market volatility and technological change reshape the global financial landscape, central banks are reassessing reserve management while balancing the core objectives of safety, liquidity and return. Evolving currency dynamics, geopolitical risks and advances in artificial intelligence are reshaping the strategic and operational considerations underpinning reserve management.
Held during the IMF–World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, this lunchtime event brings together senior reserve managers, official institutions and market participants to discuss geopolitical fragmentation and currency diversification, reserve adequacy, AI and data governance, and regional co-operation.
The insights from the event, alongside bilateral discussions with central banks and findings from OMFIF’s GPI 2026, inform a research report, to be published in December 2026.

David Marsh is Chairman and Co-Founder of OMFIF. Before starting at OMFIF in late 2009, he worked for City merchant bank Robert Fleming, corporate finance boutique Hawkpoint, German management consultancy Droege and London investment firm London & Oxford. Marsh took over the chairmanship from John Plender on 1 January 2018 having been Managing Director since 2014. He moved to a non-executive role following John Orchard’s appointment as Chief Executive effective 1 January 2020.
