Biodiversity and natural capital loss are estimated to cost $2.15tn over five years, diminishing natural resources and threatening livelihoods if current trends continue. The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted at COP15, sets out a global action plan to protect and transform response to curb current biodiversity loss.

With two target dates: one in 2030, the other 2050, the GBF sets out a total of 23 targets and four goals. As 2030 rapidly approaches, three interconnected targets are particularly significant. Together, they create a financial and economic framework to support biodiversity by promoting disclosures by financial institutions (Target 15), aligning government and financial authority policies, regulations and financial flows (Target 14), and mobilising both public and private finance for nature protection (Target 19).

This roundtable assesses the progress made by the financial sector and policy bodies in achieving these interconnected targets and develop pathways to mobilise and reallocate capital towards critical biodiversity protection.
