SINGAPORE Tue 25 Jul 2017
OMFIF organised a roundtable discussion in Singapore with Mohd Munir Majid, chair of Asean Business Club and visiting senior fellow at the foreign policy think tank LSE IDEAS, on the outlook for integration in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in the light of the 20th anniversary of the 1997 Asian financial crisis.
Attendees to the meeting addressed how, although the future of Asean is inextricably connected to the rise of China, the deepening of bilateral ties with Beijing need not come at the expense of strengthened integration in the bloc.
Attendees also discussed the impact of 3D printing, e-commerce and financial technology on Asean, developments which will play a key role in the region's growth. Business dynamics, rather than policy strategies, will dictate Asean's future success.
