Mthuli Ncube, professor of public policy at Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, and head of research at global investment firm Quantum Global Group, is joining the OMFIF board with immediate effect. Jean-Claude Bastos de Morais, founder of Quantum Global group, a member of the board since April 2014, is stepping down but will remain closely associated with OMFIF and a member of the advisory board.

Ncube was chief economist and vice president of the African Development Bank before becoming head of the Quantum Global Research Lab earlier this year. He holds a PhD in economics from Selwyn College, Cambridge University, and was dean and professor of finance at Wits Business School, Witwatersrand University in South Africa where he founded the Centre for Entrepreneurship. He was a lecturer at the London School of Economics and has worked at Investec Asset Management.

John Plender, OMFIF chairman, said: ‘We are very happy that Mthuli has joined us. He will help us in our expansion in many parts of the world. While paying tribute to Jean-Claude for his wise advice during his two and a half years on the board, we are very pleased that we can continue to rely on his help and support in the future.’

Bastos de Morais said, ‘It is a source of real pleasure that Mthuli can join the board. I have valued my time with my boardroom colleagues and look forward to many fresh associations with OMFIF and to remaining on the advisory board as it develops further as a major force in public-private sector financial and monetary interactions.’

Reflecting on his joining the board, Ncube said, ‘I believe I can make a real difference to OMFIF as it branches out in propitious directions in the advanced and emerging market economies. Bolstered by my links with African central banks and other public institutions, as well as with many other economies, I believe I can play a part in helping to guide OMFIF’s strategic development.’
