Gabriel SteinFormer Chief Economic Advisor, OMFIF

  • Middle East

In 1991, Gabriel Stein joined Lombard Street Research (LSR) to help set up the company's World Service, and went on to become a Director in 1995. Prior to this, he worked at the Israeli Ministry of Finance. From 2012 to 2014 he ran Stein brothers (UK), his own macroeconomic forecasting consultancy.

Stein has written extensively on topics such as the problems of monetary unions, demographic and pensions issues, broad money and credit flows, as well as sectoral financial balances. In 2005, he predicted that central bankers would lose their semi-divine status through failure to control asset-price bubbles, a forecast confirmed by the Great Recession of 2008-2010.

Stein holds a master's degree from the Stockholm School of Economics and an MA in Military History from the University of Buckingham.
