Denis MacShane

Denis MacShaneFormer Minister for Europe, British Cabinet

Denis MacShane was an MP from 1994-2012 and UK Minister for Europe and No 2 at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, between 2001 and 2005. He is a Senior Adviser at Avisa Partners, Brussels.

MacShane has since served as a UK Delegate to the Council of Europe and NATO Parliamentary Assembly. He has spoken on European and geo-political issues at many major business conferences and has lectured at Princeton, Chicago, Oxford, Madrid and St Andrews Universities. He served three terms on the Council of the Royal Institute for International Affairs.

MacShane writes regularly for the Financial Times, Le Monde, Die Welt and El Pais. His books range from a biography of Francois Mitterrand to a work on modern anti-Semitism. In January 2015 he published Brexit: How Britain Will Leave Europe (Ib Tauris).

MacShane holds a M.A. in History from Oxford University and a Ph.D. in International Economics from Birkbeck, University of London.
