Gerard Lyons is a Director at the Bank of China (UK). Before this, he was Chief Economic Adviser to Boris Johnson, former Mayor of London. He is a Member of the International Council of the Bretton Woods Committee and the European Commission’s ‘informal network of leading China experts’. 

Prior to this, for 13 years he served as Chief Economist and Group Head of Global Research at Standard Chartered Bank. Previous roles at the Bank included Member of the Global Markets Management Team and the Risk Management Committee.

Lyons has held senior roles at leading international financial firms since starting in the City 25 years ago at Chase Manhattan, including Chief Economist at DKB International; Consultant to the Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank Tokyo; and Chief UK Economist at Swiss Bank Corporation.

Lyons has an excellent forecasting record, having topped the Sunday Times annual forecasting table twice in the past decade and is widely credited with accurate predictions ahead of the financial crisis.

He holds a PhD on 'Testing the efficiency of financial futures markets' from the University of London.
