Lord (Meghnad) Desai, Chairman of the Advisory Board, is Emeritus Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science, which he joined in 1965, and established the Centre for the Study of Global Governance in 1992. Desai has been a member of the House of Lords select committee on EU Financial Affairs since July 2016.
Desai holds a BA and MA in Economics from Bombay Mumbai University and obtained his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2008, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan Award, the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India.
Desai has authored or edited 20 books, has written over 200 articles for academic journals, and contributes to newspapers across the UK and India. Recent books include ‘Marx's Revenge: The Resurgence of Capitalism and Death of Statist Socialism’; ‘Nehru’s Hero: Development’; ‘Nationhood: Essays on the Political Economy of South Asia’; and ‘The Rediscovery of India’.
His research interests include economics, international political economy, economic history, South-Asian studies and globalisation.
