MEETINGS
OMFIF meetings - which usually take place within central banks and other official institutions – provide an occasion for deep-seated exchanges of views by allowing both the public and private sector participants to reveal strengths and weaknesses and seek solutions for their individual problems in an open fashion.
As well as the large roundtable meetings of the core OMFIF forum, OMFIF organise a series of events for members including speeches, awards, workshops and seminars.

Main OMFIF meetings
Main roundtable meetings (usually for around 60-80 participants) at the core of the OMFIF experience. In 2010 the forum’s first meeting was held at the Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt, hosted by its president Prof. Axel Weber. This was followed by an inaugural meeting in Asia at Bank Negara Malaysia, hosted by Governor Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz, an inaugural meeting in the Middle East at the Central Bank of the U.A.E. in Abu Dhabi hosted by H.E. Sultan Bin Nasser Al Suwaidi, the second meeting in Europe at the Nederlandsche Bank in Amsterdam hosted by Governor Nout Wellink, and an inaugural meeting in Africa at the South African Reserve Bank in Pretoria hosted by Governor Gill Marcus.

Golden Series on World Money
In addition to three annual roundtables OMFIF organises a range of events for members and others. Following the success of the OMFIF EMU Werner Plan lecture with Yves Mersch, OMFIF will be launching a new Golden Series on World Money comprising a series of lectures and symposia in London in 2011 linked to the 40th anniversary of the ending of the Bretton Woods system with the closing of the “gold window” by President Nixon in August 1971.
Speakers in 2011 so far have included Lord Denis Healey, former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Dr. Joachim Nagel, Board Member, Deutsche Bundesbank, and Julia Leung, Treasury undersecretary, Hong Kong. Confirmed speakers include Dr Jürgen Stark, Member of the Executive Board, European Central Bank, Philippe Hildebrand, President, Swiss National Bank, Miroslav Singer, Governor, Czech National Bank, and Lorenzo Bini Smaghi, Member of the Executive Board, European Central Bank.

Conferences
Asian Central Banks' Watchers Conference
On 1 November, OMFIF launched the first Asian Central Banks' Watchers Conference in association with Bank Negara Malaysia. This event focused on the Asian Perspectives on World Money.

16th Annual German-British Forum Conference
To mark the 16th annual conference of the German-British Forum, OMFIF invited European Central Bank Executive Board Member Dr Lorenzo Bini Smaghi to address delegates at Chatham House in London on Thursday 26 May, 2011.

World Banking Summit
In association with Lafferty Group, OMFIF held the World Banking Summit from 29-30 June at Gibson Hall, London, to analyse the changing shape of the world-wide banking industry in the light of sweeping regulatory and financial market changes in the last few years. Speakers at the Summit included John Reed, former chairman and CEO, Citigroup and the New York Stock Exchange; Jacques de Larosiere, former Managing Director, IMF, former Governor, Banque de France; Maria Ramos, Group Chief Executive, Absa Group; and Roberto Higuera, Chief Executive Officer, Banco Popular Espanol.

Luxembourg Monetary and Finance Week
The Luxembourg Monetary and Finance Week 'Europe and the World Economy', in association with DZ Bank, is being held between 12-16 September. The week will include conferences at the European Investment Bank, DZ Bank, and the Banque central du Luxembourg. On 15 September there will be a conference on International Financial Centres.
