What are OMFIF’s main areas of focus?
 
OMFIF’s activities focus on two essential areas:
 
• Improving the effectiveness of individual public sector institutions through better asset and liability management and improved interactions with the private sector, and
• Increasing the cohesiveness of the new supervisory and regulatory architecture for international banks and capital markets after the shocks of 2007-09.

Who can become an OMFIF member?
 
• Central banks
• Sovereign funds
• Financial regulators
• Debt management offices

• Asset managers, including mutual funds, life insurers, pension funds and private banks
• Investment banks
• Retail banks

Surely these organisations already have enough opportunity to meet?
 
Certainly there are a great number of official meetings at all levels, and these are of great importance. However there is an identified need for meetings bringing together different types of official asset managers with a small number of selected private sector participants, guided by a trusted, independent third party to facilitate the process.


Who sits on the OMFIF Advisory Board?

The 93-strong board is headed by Prof. Lord Meghnad Desai, Emeritus Professor at the London School of Economics. Deputy Chairmen are John Nugée of State Street Global Advisers, Frank Scheidig of DZ Bank and Songzuo Xiang of Renmin University. See website under Advisory Board for further details.


How does OMFIF promote dialogue in world finance?
 
Through confidential global member meetings, the weekly Newswire and a Monthly Bulletin – and through facilitation of privileged contacts between members and other key players in the financial industry and global politics. Meetings at a regional level are planned in different locations around the world. In addition, OMFIF will be holding a number of public conferences towards the end of 2010 and in 2011

How many people attend OMFIF meetings?
 
The meetings in Frankfurt (2-3 March 2010) and Kuala Lumpur (15-17 May 2010) attracted 60-70 delegates. The meeting in Abu Dhabi attracted over 100 delegates. More details are available on request.

What is the status of the meetings? 
 
The media are excluded from meetings to assure confidentiality. However journalists who would like general information on OMFIF should contact the persons named above.
 
Is the membership of OMFIF made public? 
 
No.
